Chemical Peels

Updated: May 6, 2019

There are different depths of chemical peels. Superficial peel removes 1 skin layer, normally the dead skin. Superficial peel would give you a result of radiant looking skin straight after the peel. There will be no skin peeling afterwards. This type of peel is used before going out, a party or an event as you can go out straight after. The peel is not painful or uncomfortable, you are likely to feel either nothing or some mild tingling.

We use lactic acid peel, which are quite gentle, as a superficial peel.

You can also use salicylic acid based peels to combat signs of acne. with a gentle 10% salicylic acid peel, there will be no skin shedding either.

Medium peel goes down to 2 skin layers and will give you mild skin peeling, similar to a sun burn peeling. During the peel you will feel some tingling, escalating to mild stinging. This type of peel is commonly used by people that have specific issues that need to be addressed such as sun damage, pigmentation, acne, acne scarring, enlarged pores, etc.

Peeling is normally mild and will last for 3-5 days. No time off work is needed.

You would use that type of peel for the purposes of resurfacing the skin, whether it is for acne scarring, pores or fine lines.

Deep peels will go down to 4 or 5 skin layers. It will give you substantial amount of peeling, pain and discomfort and will require down time of a week or more. Deep peels are used when by those with skin issues such as melasma, deep scarring and other tough skin issues.

We perform AlumierMD peels at our clinic that go down to medium depth.
