What is HIFU?

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. It is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production, resulting in firmer, lifted skin on the face and neck.

How does HIFU work?

HIFU delivers focused ultrasound energy to the deep layers of the skin, including the SMAS layer (the same layer targeted during surgical facelifts). This energy triggers a natural regenerative process, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin over time.

What areas can be treated with HIFU?

HIFU is commonly used to treat:

  • Jawline and jowls

  • Neck

  • Cheeks and mid-face

  • Brow and forehead

  • Nasolabial folds

  • Under the chin (double chin)

Is HIFU painful?

Most clients experience mild to moderate discomfort during the treatment, described as a tingling or prickling sensation. Discomfort levels vary depending on individual pain thresholds and treatment areas.

How long does a HIFU treatment take?

A typical treatment session lasts between 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the areas being treated.

Is there any downtime?

No. HIFU is a non-invasive treatment with no required downtime. Clients can return to their normal activities immediately after the

session.

When will I see results?

Some clients notice an immediate tightening effect, but the full results develop gradually over 8 to 12 weeks as collagen production increases. Improvements can continue for up to 12 months.

How long do the results last?

Results typically last 12 to 18 months, depending on individual skin condition, age, lifestyle, and maintenance. Annual top-up sessions are recommended to prolong the effects.

Is HIFU safe?

Yes. HIFU is a clinically proven treatment for non-surgical facial lifting. It has a strong safety record when performed by trained professionals.

Who is an ideal candidate for HIFU?

HIFU is best suited for clients with mild to moderate skin laxity who are seeking a non-surgical lifting and tightening solution. It is not recommended for individuals with very loose or sun-damaged skin, or for those with metal implants in the treatment area.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are typically mild and temporary. These may include:

  • Slight redness

  • Swelling

  • Tingling or tenderness

  • Bruising

  • Rarely numbness

How many treatments will I need?

Most clients benefit from a single session, with visible improvements over time. However, some may opt for a second session after 6 months to enhance the results, especially in areas with more laxity.

My HIFU Journey at Fab Clinics: A Real Client Experience

"I was starting to notice my face didn’t match how I felt on the inside — especially around my jawline. It was softer, less defined, and those early jowls and folds were making me look tired and older than I felt."

I’m 52, and while I’ve always been proactive with skincare, there comes a point where creams and serums can only do so much. Over the past year, I’d become increasingly aware of the changes around my lower face — a slipping jawline, soft jowls forming, and deeper nasolabial folds that seemed to pull everything downward. I still felt confident on the inside, but I wanted my reflection to match that.

Exploring My Options

I considered several options: dermal filler injectables, even surgery. But I didn’t want to rely on fillers, and I definitely wasn’t ready for anything invasive. I wanted a natural lift — something that would restore structure and firmness, especially around my jaw and cheeks, without changing how I looked.

Why I Chose Fab Clinics

I’d been following Fab Clinics for a while and liked their clear, honest approach. They seemed to focus on natural-looking results and long-term skin health, not just quick fixes. A friend had visited them and spoke highly of the care and professionalism, so I felt confident booking a consultation.

The Consultation

During the consultation, everything was explained in detail. We talked through my concerns — the softening jawline, emerging jowls, and how the lines from my nose to mouth were becoming more pronounced. The clinician assessed my skin thoroughly and confirmed I was a suitable candidate for HIFU. I appreciated the honest expectations — they weren’t selling a miracle, but a gradual, genuine improvement.

The Treatment Experience

The treatment itself took just over an hour. It focused on the lower face, jawline, and neck. Some areas felt a little intense — especially over the bony parts of my jaw — but it was entirely manageable. There was no downtime afterwards, though I did notice a small bruise on one side of my neck the next day. It faded quickly and didn’t interfere with daily life.

When I Saw Results

I began to see early signs of improvement within a few weeks — especially around the jawline, which started to look cleaner and more defined. But it was around the 10 to 12-week point that the results really became noticeable. My jowls had softened significantly, my nasolabial folds were less deep, and the overall contour of my face had improved. It looked natural — like me, but more lifted and rested.

Four Months Later

Now, about four months on, the change is clear but subtle — which is exactly what I wanted. My face looks fresher and firmer, with more definition in the jaw and a smoother neck. The best part? No one’s asked if I’ve had anything done — they just tell me I look well.

I’m planning to maintain it with a top-up next year. For anyone wanting a non-invasive, natural way to restore structure and slow down facial ageing — HIFU at Fab Clinics has been a brilliant choice.
